The Nash Street Mile
    5K  and 10K Race
     With
        One Mile Community Walk

HOW IT BEGAN

This 10K race began as the idea of Dr. Margaret Metts, Radiation Oncologist with Wilson Medical Center. An avid runner, she wanted to be able to give back to the community in a way that would be immediately felt by those in need. This came about as a natural progression of her desire to care for those that have found themselves with an unfortunate diagnosis and little resources for help. The goal is to have an annual event to help support the patients of Wilson Regional Cancer Center.

MISSION
The mission of the Nash Street Mile  is to bring the citizens of Wilson and the surrounding communities together to raise money for the Compassionate Care Fund of WilMed Healthcare Foundation. The Wilson Regional Cancer Center treats patients with various types of cancer. We have found that many of our patients have anxiety about maintaining employment, finding transportation to doctors appointments and paying their electric bills. This struggle is compounded by the diagnosis of cancer.  By creating and maintaining this fund, we can offer support to the patients of our community. We strive to alleviate some of the stress that is associated with the diagnosis of cancer. Our non-profit organization serves people of all races, creeds and religions. We do not discriminate. We merely support our patients. After all, they are like our family.
